Adopt an Urn

Erie Cemetery Celebrates 175 years! To mark this special occasion, we're launching a fun and engaging program to get the community involved in beautifying this historic space.
The cemetery is home to many decorative flower urns and cradle graves (a headstone and a footstone connected by stone, creating a cradle-like appearance with soil in the center), many in need of care. While some families or landscape companies plant and water urns and cradle graves, many have been orphaned over time.
How can you help? All you have to do is register, get your assigned spot, then plant flowers and water during the growing season. There is no fee to participate. Potting soil will be available in May and an email will be sent to make all aware of the dates. A kick-off event will be held Sunday, April 27th at 1:00 to meet your "adoptee", learn about general gravestone cleaning and get tips on historical research if you wish to have even more fun. Signs will be placed near urns and cradle graves recognizing those who plant, and an appreciation event will be held later in the growing season.
